About
Gvantsa (Gvaneta) Betaneli is a Georgian-German classical guitarist and laureate of numerous national and international competitions. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, she began studying guitar at the age of three under the guidance of her father, Ferdinand Betaneli. At the age of five she gave her first solo recital, and only a few years later made her international debut. At thirteen, she successfully passed an audition and became a soloist of the State Philharmonic of Georgia. Gvaneta performed numerous concerts as a Soloist of the Philharmonic across various cities and towns in Georgia.
Betaneli graduated with distinction from the Music Gymnasium of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire (Central Music School for musically gifted children). At the age of sixteen, she became the youngest student admitted to the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with the highest honours. During her studies in Georgia, Betaneli was awarded the Presidential Scholarship of Georgia five times consecutively. At that time Presidential scholarship was one of the country’s highest distinctions for students.
In 2011, she was awarded a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholarship to continue her studies at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK Frankfurt), where she later completed her Artistic Diploma and Master’s degree, both with top marks.
In 2018, Gvaneta won the audition in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and was awarded another prestigious scholarship from Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now e.V. foundation. In the following years, she performed numerous concerts as a scholarship holder of the foundation across various cities in Germany.
She is a prize winner of several national and international competitions, including: 2nd Prize – 2nd International Guitar Competition Bale-Valle “Live Guitar” (Bale, Croatia); 1st Prize – 10th International Guitar Competition Guitar Renaissance (Gomel, Belarus); 2nd Prize – 1st Tbilisi International Guitar Competition (Tbilisi, Georgia); 2nd Prize – 2nd National Classical Guitar Competition (Tbilisi, Georgia); 1st Prize – 3rd International Competition of Musician Performers Renaissance (Gyumri, Armenia).
Gvaneta is regularly invited as a member of the jury of music competitions both in Germany and internationally. She has been a jury member in the guitar category at an prestigious music competitions such as the German Competition for Young Musicians “Jugend musiziert 2024” and “Jugend Musiziert 2025”. She was invited also to be a part of the Jury at an International Music Competition “Art-Dominanta 2025”.
From an early age, Betaneli’s career has brought her to concert stages around the world, with performances in Germany, Spain, France, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Costa Rica, and beyond. She has participated in international charity concerts, festivals, and given masterclasses. For her cultural contributions, she has received numerous distinctions, including a special diploma from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia, as well as an honorary diploma from the municipality of Cártama, Spain (2017). Besides her solo career, Gvaneta actively pursues chamber music, often performing with different ensembles.
Betaneli collaborates with worldwide renowned guitar salon Siccas Guitars (Karlsruhe, Germany), where she regularly records video sessions. In 2023 she had also a collaboration with well-known Altamira Guitars, recording for their Altamira Home Concert social media series. In December 2025 Gvaneta was invited to participate in the VI Francisco Tarrega International Congress.
In addition to her international performing career, Gvaneta maintains a profound commitment to pedagogy. Since 2013, she has been a guitar teacher at the Frankfurt Music School (Musikschule Frankfurt am Main e.V). Her students have achieved notable success, earning prizes at prestigious competitions such as the Sparkasse Music Competition, Jugend musiziert Regional Competition 2024, Jugend musiziert Regional Competition 2025 and Jugend musiziert State Competition 2025.
Gvaneta plays Michel Brück’s Ceder Doubletop 2023 guitar.
